One Thousand Hands: An interactive exhibition celebrating Refugee Week
From the 3rd to the 29th of June at the Oval House Theatre
Once again, Oval House Theatre’s Arts Education team are delighted to be part of the various celebrations marking Refugee Week this year between 16-22 June.
This interactive exhibition features the work of young refugees and asylum seekers of all ages up to 16 years from schools in Lambeth including Lilian Baylis Technology College, Charles Edward Brooke, OLIVE (Open Learning Initiative for Vocational Education), Loughborough Primary, Lansdowne Special School, Turney Special School and Jubilee Primary.
The young people have used a number of vibrant colours, fabric and paints to explore their own creativity, using the symbol of hands as a basis for their work. The project, developed in partnership with the London Borough of Lambeth Ethnic Minority Achievement Department, has engaged with over 400 young people across the borough through a series of creative workshops with the aim of producing an interactive exhibition that uses the subject of hands as a stimulus; one that symbolically represents the positive contribution these young people have made to today’s society.
Members of the public are also invited to contribute to this exhibition – a series of blank hands made from cards will be available in the Café Gallery for visitors to contribute their own colourful expressions towards the exhibition.
Admission is free. For more information visit the Refuge Week website or the Oval House website.
