Welcome to Radio Peckham, South East London’s community radio station!

 

Radio Peckham is a vibrant community radio station for South East London, broadcasting online to entertain and inform the local community of Peckham & Nunhead and to promote the area to people all over Southwark & beyond.

 

Radio Peckham is home to some the South East's most talented DJs, presenters, journalists and producers. It's these people that make Radio Peckham unique, with programmes including live music shows, The Youth Magazine Show, specialist music shows such as All This Jazz and much, much more. Since the station was established back in 2004 we have trained over 250 local residents in radio production and broadcasting techniques. Many of these trainees have gone on to form our core team of volunteer presenters, researchers and producers.

Last year was our most successful to date. We doubled our amount of live shows, trained more volunteers than ever before and worked on features alongside the BBC and ITN. All this culminated in our month long FM broadcast, Radio Peckham 101.4, that hit the airwaves in November 2007. The FM broadcast not only allowed more people than ever before to get involved, but gave us the medium to reach our widest audience yet, helping spread the word and increase community integration.

At Radio Peckham we work alongside other community groups, helping create a shared ground where voluntary and local organisations can work together, helping create a more cohesive community. We help a wide range of community groups promote their causes through the community section as well as on-air.

We are keen to dispell out-dated stereotypes about community radio. We produce high-quality shows and aim both to inform and entertain. BBC journalist Mark Savage praised our output: '...surpasses much of the crass commercial radio rubbish out there, and could even give the BBC a run for our money!'

 

Radio Peckham is also working to improve the area through bringing decision makers and residents together. We are trying to tackle problems such as gun and knife crime through this approach and have received widespread recognition for the work we have done.

During 2008 Radio Peckham is looking to surpass last year's success, with regular FM broadcasts and work with major stations and media groups to give an even bigger platform for the area. We are hoping to train more residents, increase our volunteer presenter base and produce more show than ever before. Keep your eyes peeled and ears alert...
